Case Studies

Order Processing and Distribution system for a leading e-commerce company:

The company sells office equipment and supplies online. The company undertakes an inventory of thousands of items ranging from furniture, computers and fax machines to paper clips and pencils. These items are sold through retail stores, catalogs and direct to corporate customers. Almost all items are purchased from manufacturers, stocked in warehouses across the country and shipped to customers against orders.

A large online database system supports and handles almost all aspects of the business chiefly:

  • Order Processing
  • Inventory Management
  • Products and Pricing
  • Distribution
  • Invoicing
  • Receivables
  • Freight Management
  • Returns and Revisions
  • Supplies
  • Management and Marketing Reporting
The proposed system forms the cornerstone of the company's ability to succeed in a highly competitive market. The system offers significant competitive advantages such as same day shipping and online status response to customers nationwide.

Infinix was selected to support this critical system on an ongoing basis. Support consists of implementing requests for change (maintenance or enhancement) from users in a timely manner. Various system optimization changes were also made from time to time. Two Infinix analysts were assigned to this project on a rotating basis every year. The analysts report to the client's Project Manager/s and undertake specific task requests from design through testing and implementation.

The primary tasks carried out for each maintenance task request are:

  • Design of the change
  • Programming and testing
  • System Testing
  • Implementation
  • Documentation and training as required
The company has commissioned Infinix to migrate the system to the company's 4GL LINC system. Our analysts have also been involved in studying the functionality of the existing database system and redeveloping it in LINC.

This maintenance activity requires not only an in-depth knowledge of the technical environment (Operating System, TP Monitor, Database Management System, Utilities and Language) but also a detailed analysis of large application systems and rapid design modifications without disturbing the functioning of the rest of the system.
