Customer Service Extranet for a Top 5 IT Services
company:
The company is a leading IT Services major involved in computer systems, software, storage systems and microelectronics.
This project was aimed at opening up IT services of the company to a wide range of customers through the Internet. All services that were available on request via fax were to be made accessible to customers.
The solution covered a global set of servers and AS/400 database servers, fax servers and a new problem reporting strategy. Automation and easy accessibility of information were critical business issues that needed to be addressed in the solution.
The server had a multi-tiered architecture with 2 CORBA agents at the back end (VOYAGER and IONA). Infinix consultants worked on the design and development of IONA and VOYAGER calls to servlets at the back end. They designed the server for the initial start-up and creation of VOYAGER objects. This server starts up all the VOYAGER objects to be accessed by the GUI front end. The server objects interact with AIX, AS/400, RS/6000 servers and the DB/2 database. The servlets JSP (Java Server Pages) and DHTML form the GUI components.
Infinix also participated in the Firewall Access design and development. The firewall access involved design and development using JSDK 2.0 toolkit and sockets programming interacting with VOYAGER objects and JSPs. The web servers used were DOMINO, APACHE, and NES 3.5.1.
Infinix installed the firewall environment, GUI client environment and the VOYAGER environment for testing, as well as for the entire server side project integration.
Here's an overview of the IT Environment after the solution was implemented: VisualAge for Java, Visual Café 2.0/2.5 Database Development edition, DB/2, Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, AS/400, RS/6000, AIX, JFC (Swing 1.0.2), JDK 1.1.6, JSDK 2.0, Voyager Pro 2.0.0, IONA, Orbix, Apache, NES 3.5.1 and Lotus Domino Go with IBM Web Sphere 2.0 plug-ins for servlet support.
